The “Castle” style Conoco Station built in 1936 began as the service station for “Lewis Roy Motors” in Marksville from 1936 -1950’s. Once the auto dealership expanded, it remained in use as Conoco by Mr. Burr Elliott, and later Mr. Henry Bordelon occupied it as a barber shop, as told by locals.

Conoco stations were built in the 1930’s, known as “Sinclair Stations” in the Spanish Eclectic Mission style.

Sinclair Oil Corporation is an American Petroleum Corp. founded by Harry F. Sinclair on May 1, 1916. Its logo is the large green dinosaur. At Chicago’s World Fair 1933-34, Sinclair sponsored a dinosaur exhibit to show the connection to petroleum deposits in an era of dinosaurs. It was a 2-ton animated brontosaurus becoming so popular that it became its logo along with promotional products of all types. (1916-1969 Public) (1969-1976 Subsidiary ) (1976-present Private).
